There can be so much pressure on Valentine’s Day, whether you’re in a relationship or not. For those in a relationship, there’s the pressure to buy the ‘right’ thing. For those who aren’t, it can feel like everyone else is doing something incredible that day while you’re alone.
But the truth is, things aren’t always as they seem. Even seemingly perfect relationships have their struggles. If you’re feeling alone or unfulfilled in your relationship, why not make this Valentine’s Day about prioritising yourself?
Here are 5 things to do for yourself this Valentine’s Day, no matter your relationship status!
1. Avoid Socials
If you’re in a happy relationship, consider those who aren’t and skip the gift and date night posts. It might even be a lovely idea to spend the day just with your partner, without feeling the need to prove your happiness to the world. Try a social media-free day.
If you’re single and wish you weren’t, avoid scrolling to see what everyone else is doing. Social media often highlights the best moments, not the full reality, and you’ll likely see things that don’t make you feel great. Try a social detox day instead.
TOP TIP!! To make it easier, move your social apps from their usual spot on your phone so you don’t open them on autopilot.
2. Eat Your Favorite Food
Treat yourself to your favorite meal on Valentine’s Day. Whether that means going all out on a fancy breakfast or ordering takeout in the evening, make it something you really enjoy.
Personally, I love taking myself out for coffee at a cute café, bringing my laptop or a book, and just enjoying some peaceful alone time.
3. Buy Yourself a Gift
Why wait for someone else to treat you? Whether it’s a bouquet of flowers, a new book, a skincare product, a candle, stock up on supplements or a new pair of PJs (have you seen the ones going viral from Sainsburys? Obsessed!)
Buy yourself something that makes you happy. It doesn’t have to be expensive, just something that feels like a little act of self-care.
4. Do Something That Makes You Feel Beautiful
This isn’t about looking good for anyone else, it’s about feeling good for yourself.
Put on your favorite outfit, do your hair, try a new makeup look, run a bubble bath,or have a long indulgent skincare routine. Do something that makes you feel confident and radiant.
I live in legging and a hoodies and I see TikToks all the time about dressing up just because… so I’m going to try that!
5. Call a Friend or Loved One
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be just about romantic relationships, it’s also a great time to appreciate the people who love and support you in different ways. Call a friend, family member, or someone you haven’t caught up with in a while.
Whether it’s a quick chat or a long heart-to-heart, reconnecting with someone who makes you feel good can be the perfect way to spend the day. You could even plan a Galentine’s catch-up or a cost film night together, virtually or in person!
We hope however you spend the day you feel good about yourself : )
