TLDR: If you are facing hysterectomy surgery here is what to pack for a hysterectomy, based on Rachel’s real life experience. If you read one thing, let it be this….
Hi i’m Rachel and I had a hysterectomy via keyhole surgery. Here is what to pack for a hysterectomy being done via keyhole surgery.

What To Pack For A Hysterectomy
- Hospital letter
The amount of times I have forgotten my hospital letters and ended up lost in a hosptal is embarrassing, pack your letter! Or at least take a picture of it on your phone .
- Supplements
Magnesium can be really good for sleep and if you end up staying overnight you might want something natural that could help you drift off. You can buy magensium on our website or on Amazon.
- Book/magazine
You might find yourself with a little time on your hands before you go in to your surgery where you want to do something, and a book would also take your mind off things.
- Headphones
Hospitals can be quite loud so you might want to drown out the noise with music, or listen to a podcast to pass the time. Make sure they are charged up!

- Sleep mask and ear plugs
If you stay in overnight then this is a great item to pack for your hysterectomy. Sometimes the lights can come on at night and hospitals aren’t exactly quiet at night time, so ear plus would be really handy.
- Phone charger
You’ll probably want to communicate with friends and family about your surgery to arrange collection and let them know how you’re doing, so don’t run out of battery.
- Peppermint tea bags
Gas pains can be really painful, and is pretty common after keyhole surgery. Peppermint tea is thought to help relieve them. Take tea bags and just ask the hospital for the boiling water.
- Nightie
Hospitals are quite hot usually, so I would say a nightie over PJs. This is also really helpful as your stomach will have some incisions and finding something that sits away from them can be tricky. I have written a blog on what to wear after hysterectomy surgery you can read here.
- Slippers
You will probably want them to walk to the operating room and you may also like to have them after surgery to walk to the bathroom.
- Snacks
Just incase the hospital food isn’t too your liking and you’re hungry, it’s a good idea to be prepared. I go one way of they other after surgery… absolutely starving or no appetite at all.
- Tooth brush/toothpaste
Just incase you stay in overnight, don’t forget these.
- Spare top
Anaesthetic can make you feel a little sick, and I have been sick in the past. I made this TikTok about being sick after surgery which gives some helpful advice on what to do. The extra top would be handy if this happens to you.

Best of luck with your surgery xxx
