Clary Sage for Hot Flushes – The Secret Ingredient for Relief?

clary sage for hot flushes

Trying to explain what a hot flush feels like to someone who’s never had one is virtually impossible. But if you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you know, that burning sensation that sweeps through your body, forcing you to stand at least five feet away from anyone (ideally naked), and totally taking over your life.

The clothes go on, the clothes come off. It’s a full-time job planning layers. People worry about checking social media too much… me? I’m constantly refreshing the weather app.

Thankfully, there are things you can do about hot flushes.

The first thing is to speak to your doctor about HRT, if that’s an option for you. Since hot flushes are often triggered by falling estrogen levels, it’s a sensible place to start.

But if HRT isn’t for you, don’t worry. There are natural ways to support your body too. Even if you can use HRT, you might want something else alongside it. It isn’t a magical cure for everything (sadly!)

Let me introduce you to my favourite: clary sage for hot flushes.

Why Clary Sage for Hot Flushes?

Clary sage is thought to mimic estrogen and help balance hormones. It’s a brilliant essential oil for women, I even used it during labour to help manage contractions!

There’s actually research that supports the benefits of clary sage for hot flushes. It’s amazing how essential oils affect the body, and they’ve been used for centuries to treat all sorts of things.

Clary sage oil, in particular, may help ease hot flushes by supporting hormonal balance and promoting a calming effect. That combination can reduce both the intensity and frequency of those dreaded temperature spikes.

How to Use Clary Sage for Hot Flushes

You can use a topical oil, just apply a little to the bottoms of your feet or the insides of your wrists. Personally, I like to pop a few drops onto a hankie (yes, call me Grandad, but it works way better than a tissue!).

Always opt for organic clary sage oil. Non-organic options can be loaded with toxins, which are definitely not what our hormones need right now.

If you want to take things a step further, try a food-grade clary sage oil, like the one in our Moon Swings CBD oil, it’s packed with even more benefits.

Why? Because CBD is also brilliant for hormonal balance, which is key during menopause.

To take Moon Swings, just place half to a full pipette under your tongue in the morning or evening. I personally take mine before bed—it helps with sleep too!

Are There Any Side Effects?

If you’re pregnant, do not use clary sage oil, it’s believed to potentially bring on labour.

If you’re applying it topically, watch out for skin irritation. Some people also report mild headaches. If that happens, try using less before giving up completely. The smell is strong, you only need a tiny bit!

I really hope this blog helps you feel more in control of your hot flushes.

You can try our Moon Swings CBD + Clary Sage Oil for £31.99 or 3 for £55—and use code HOT15 for 15% off your first order.

I also have written a guide about menopause and HRT which you can buy here. It should help with questions about menopause, especially ones you do not want to ask your doctor!
