Easy Vegan Hot Chocolate Recipe

vegan hot chocolateTell me, what is better than having your hand curled around a warm mug of vegan hot chocolate?

Whether you are out walking in the crisp winter with your takeaway mug, or snuggled under a blanket on the sofa with your favourite mug, hot chocolate is incredible with actual healing powers (okay, maybe not healing powers but benefits – more on that later).

As a vegan, or someone who doesn’t get on with dairy, you might have felt left out from hot chocolate hype in the past.

You’re sat sipping on a peppermint tea while your friends have whipped cream on the tips of their noses, drinking down that warming liquid chocolate.

With more things than ever available to vegans, vegan hot chocolate is no exception and girl are we glad!

You can make this in your favourite mug, or if you are making a few portions then you can mix it up in a microwavable jug or if you are old school then the hob. Personally, I like to heat the milk in a pan then mix it up in my pink bowl shaped mug.

Adding a little drop of orange essence gives it that little extra vibe, or you could add a dose of Pretty Peaceful which has an orange flavour along with cannabiniods for a relaxing evening and restful sleep.

When you have your hot chocolate mixed up and ready to drink you might think about adding vegan marshmallows to the top, or whisking up some coconut cream.

Vegan hot chocolate benefits

vegan hot chocAntioxidant

Dark chocolate is a natural antioxidant and is thought to help improve blood flow and lower blood pressure.

Reduce inflammation and risk of heart problems

There is even a thought that it can improve your brain function, reduce the risk of heart disease and reduce inflammation – if that isn’t a reason to have a mug of liquid chocolate then I don’t know what is.

Low calorie option

If you are craving something sweet in the evening then a dairy free hot chocolate is a great option as it contains less sugar and fat than milk chocolates and will keep you away from the calorific snacks.

Our vegan hot chocolate blend contains just 98 calories per 25g serving, which won’t break the calorie bank!

Time for you

Let’s also mention the benefit of slowing down for a moment and having a little treat.

Life gets a little too fast paced sometimes and ‘me time’ can drop right to the bottom of the list.

Taking a moment for yourself can help you to feel regenerated, particularly if you spend lots of time caring for others.

If this sounds like you then you need to check out our Valentine’s gifts to give yourself this year, and it doesn’t have to be just on Valentine’s day either!

A note on vegan hot chocolate

Dark chocolate does contain caffeine, so if you are sensitive to it make sure you don’t have your mug of vegan hot chocolate right before bed as it could interfere with your catching some Zs.

If sleep is something you struggle with even when you haven’t had caffeine head over to our natural sleep remedies blog to learn how you can get some shut eye.

Enjoy!
