How to Recycle and Reuse your Mailbags

our remedy compostable mailer - recycle and reuse your mailbags

At Our Remedy, we are recycling advocates. If you are a customer of ours then you probably already know how all of our packaging is recyclable or compostable. You might have even followed our blog on how you can reuse your old Our Remedy bottles and essential oil bottles.

We want to take it one step further and show you how you can get more life from your compostable mailers too.

In this blog we will be discussing the different ways you can recycle and reuse your mailbags.

Reuse vs Recycle vs Compostable

Recycling turns the product back into raw materials ready to be made into something else. This is great and better than the landfill. However, reusing is even better.

Reusing involves using the item again and again, maybe for a different purpose.

Composting means you are able to put the mailer in the compost where it can decompose back into the earth.

How to Recycle and Reuse your Mailbags from Our Remedy

We try to be as eco-friendly as possible with all of our products. This of course includes the CBD oil and the tea, but it also includes the packaging, pipettes and even the printing ink we use.

We take our time to research the best option for the planet while keeping costs down to pass on to our customers.

Compost

If you have no space in your life for a drawer of envelopes to reuse then you might want to say goodbye to the mailer ASAP.

All you do is take the label off and pop it in your food bin, with the rest of your compostable waste. If you have your own at home compost heap then you can also put it in there, though it might take a little longer to break down than it would under industrial conditions.

These mailers will start to disintegrate within 12 weeks and decompose in 6 months under industrial conditions.

Reuse

If you have read our eco friendly declutter tips blog and are starting to sell on eBay and Depop, then you will appreciate being able to reuse our mailers.

Take the label off or stick a new one over the top, just to avoid the mail coming back to you!

When you open the mailer do so carefully so that you can easily reuse it in good condition.

Recycle

You won’t be able to recycle these in your recycling bin like you would cardboard and tins. Instead, you should find a way to compost them with your food waste or your home compost heap. If you haven’t got compost available to you then place it in your household waste.

How to store

If you are storing your compostable mailers at home and have quite a collection, be aware that they need to be used within 12 months. You should store them away from heat, humidity, direct sunlight and moisture. This will help to keep them in good condition for longer.

Why compostable mailers matter to us

Since we started Our Remedy we have set out to be an eco-conscious brand. We have always admired brands that make it easy to reuse and recycle their products and have stepped away from others with unnecessary packaging or too much plastic.

Bubble wrap lined mailers generally can’t be recycled. We wanted something that could be easily disposed of in an eco-friendly way.

If you get lots of deliveries through the post which are in bubble wrap mailers then try to reuse them as much as possible. If you feel that you want to go tea total on the plastic then you might even consider not shopping with the retailer who is sending you the bubble wrap mailers. If it is really bugging you, write to them. It is 100% something we would do!
